There are three main types of wedding ceremonies:
π£The civil ceremony: This is a legal ceremony, and is compulsory if the marriage is to be recognized by law. It takes place at the town hall and is generally sober and short.
βͺοΈLa Religious ceremony: This is not a legal ceremony, but allows religious couples to unite before God according to the rites of their religion. It must take place after the civil union. The two ceremonies may or may not take place on the same day.
π³The secular ceremony: Unlike other ceremonies, it is neither legal nor religious in nature. It offers couples the freedom to completely personalize their wedding ceremony, choosing texts, songs and union rituals.
Each of these different types offers different characteristics, and the choice depends on your preferences and convictions.
